WIDE WORK. 이번호에 주목한 경영위치(김승회+강원필)건축사사무소의 판교주택 2제(소나무집과 윤교수댁)는 판교11블록에 위치하고 있으며, 이 블록은 김승회 소장이 코디네이터로 참여하여 매력적인 단독주택 주거지를 만들고자하는 입주자의 희망에 따라 블록 독자적인 새로운 가이드라인을 마련했습니다. ‘높이 제한과 한정된 재료, 프라이버시를 위한 목재루버 사용, 통일된 랜드스케이프/주차장/우편함/문패’ 등을 내용으로 하는 가이드라인을 제시한 것이지요. 따라서 가이드라인이라는 동일 전형에서 출발하는 주택이 지닌 보편성과 개별 주택의 특별함이라는 양극단을 넘나들며 해법을 찾는 건축가의 예지를 살필 수 있을 겁니다.

WIDE ISSUE 2. 흔히 건축계의 노벨상으로 비유되는 프리츠커상을 특집하였습니다. 연구년으로 미국에 머물던 전봉희(서울대 건축학과)교수의 도움으로 ‘프리츠커 강국 일본: 그 유리한 입장에 관한 고찰'(다나 번트록, 버클리대학교 교수) 기고문과 두 개의 인터뷰(다나 번트록 교수: 미래의 프리츠커상 한국 수상자를 위해’, 마르타 쏜느 프리츠커상 집행감독: 프리츠커 월계관, 누가 쓰나)를 전봉희 교수가 진행했습니다.
WIDE ISSUE 3. ‘기적의 도서관’, ‘무주 공공프로젝트’ 건축가로 잘 알려진 정기용의 전시(일민미술관)를 강권정예 본지 객원기자가 리뷰했습니다. “감응(感應)_정기용 건축, ‘풍토, 풍경과의 대화'”를 깊이 있게 들여다보고 있습니다. 선생이 삶의 끝을 의식하며 만든 전시인 까닭에 울림이 특히 큽니다.

Seung-Hoy KIM’s <Pangyo E11-1 Block Residence>
Pangyo E11-1 Block Residence is to have the new guideline that solely applies to this block on the strength of residents’ wishes to prevent reckless development and to make an attractive detached housing site. In other words, there are volume limitation due to a height district, restricted several materials, use of timber-louver for privacy, systematic landscape and parking lots, and homogeneous mailbox & doorplate. Architect Seung-Hoy KIM, the co-president of K.Y.W.C. Architects and the professor of Seoul National University, is the very person suggesting the guideline. He, for 12 years, has already done serial works of a public health center in small cities using standardized design, and his two housing works introduced in this issue give us a hint on his directivity of residential paragon that he has wanted to eventually get through the residence research. page 027

Japan as a Pritzker Powerhouse: An Argument for its Advantage
Dana Buntroc, Associate Professor of University of California at Berkeley and an expert of Japanese architecture, presented the paper of “Japan as a Pritzker Powerhouse: An Argument for its Advantage” at ISAIA held in Kitakyushu, Japan in December 2010. The author objectively writes the advantage of Japanese modern architecture offering the multilateral backgrounds of producing five winners of Pritzker Awards being comparable with the Nobel Prize in architectural circle. Even though awarding an international architecture prize is not the goal of architectural activities, we know that an international assessment and event would be of help to the enhancement of the overall recognition and level as well as social influence in the field of architecture. In addition to the paper, there are also interviews with Dana Buntroc and Martha Thorne(Executive Director of Pritzker Architecture Prize). Guyon CHUNG’s Exhibition: A Dialogue with Native Sceneries
Guyon CHUNG, a well-known architect for Miracle Library and Muju Project, has been holding an exhibition at Ilmin Museum of Art, from November 12th 2010 to January 30th 2011. The exhibition not only shows the outcome of Guyong CHUNG’s architecture, but also summarizes an architect’s growth process, architectural conception and world view through his sketches, notes, scraps and videos. Guyong CHUNG’s “Correspondence(感應)” which is a message to the relationship among architecture, society and the general public is very suggestive. page 122

2010 Wondoshi Academy Seminar: 6 converging events
The 2010 Wondoshi Academy Seminar named “EXIT: Finding a Way of Korean Architecture_Season 2” came to an end. These converging events leading the works and ideas of young independent architect groups to the public opinion arena in the form of exhibition and forum had three teams in the first half of the year. And another three teams such as Hyung-Pyo KWON, Soon-Joo KIM and Woo-Sik MIN of BAU Architects, Soo-Jin JUNG of Architecture SIE and Hee-Soo KWAK of IDMM Architects followed in the latter half of the year.
