WIDE WORK. 필립건축 이기옥 대표 건축가의 “안국빌딩 신관 리노베이션” 작업을 주목했습니다. 이기옥의 건축은 도시, 전통, 정보를 근간으로 합니다. 그에게 건축은 개별적 존재가 아니라 도시와 관계를 맺고 소통하는 유기체이고자 합니다. 특히 한국 전통건축의 공간개념애서 모티브를 얻고 있으며, 3D 프로세스를 통해 그러한 작업들을 보다 확실하고 견고하게 구축해 나갑니다. 그것은 가설을 세우고 증명하는 작업에도 요긴하게 사용됩니다. 그가 운영하는 건축정보전문사이트’아키데이타'(www.archidata.co.kr)는 PMS(Project Management System) 운영과 제반 설계 정보를 공급함으로써 작은 규모 사무실의 디자이너가 보다 창조적인 작업에 열중할 수 있도록 도와줍니다.

WIDE ISSUE 1. “문화로 아름답고 행복한 학교 만들기” 제하에 강권정예 본지 객원기자의 취재기가 실렸습니다. 인간의 생애사에서 평균 12년, 하루 절반 이상을 보내는 곳, 일터라면 정년 퇴임까지 30년의 시간을 보내는 곳, 바로 학교 입니다. 사회화가 시작되고 가치관이 형성되며, 심성을 다지고 심미안을 보고 배우며 기르는 공간 역시 학교 입니다. 학교건축의 설계는 주거만큼이나 인간에게 중요해서 우리는 제대로 된 먹거리만큼이나 아이들에게 가짜가 아닌 진짜의 세상과 공간을 이야기해 줄 필요를 느낍니다.
본문에 소개한 건축가들은 그만큼 중요한 학교를 제대로 새로 짓는 대신, 학교의 후미지고 후줄근한 공간들을 찾아내어 게릴라 식으로 바꿔 들어갑니다. 그 동안의 학교건축을 계획하고 설계하는 일은 대부분 물리적, 물량적인 건축물 위주로만 진행되어왔다는 지적에 이르러, 교육환경에 관계된 다양한 입장의 사람들이 모두 참여할 수 있는 시스템을 찾고자 합니다. 빠르게, 싸게, 나쁘게 학교를 짓는 동안 관행이 된 학교 건축 발주방식, 관슴화된 미의식으로 양산된 학교의 모습은 이제 평등이라는 이름의 속박에서 벗어나려 합니다.
‘학교가 죽어가고 있다’, ‘시간이 멈춘 학교’ 등의 인식틀을 기반으로 기자는 건축가들이 학교로 몰려 간 이유를 캐고 있습니다. 인터뷰에는 윤남희, 김현진, 오영욱, 현군출, 김주연, 이소진이 참여하였고, 각 건축가들이 디자인디렉터로 참여한 ‘순천 성남초등학교'(오영욱), ‘안양 삼일초등학교'(김선철, 김주연), ‘제주 표선초등학교'(현군출), ‘대구 영화학교'(김현진), ‘서울 경복여자고등학교'(윤남희), ‘서울 대청중학교'(이소진)의 작업을 소개하고 있습니다.
WIDE ISSUE 2. 재단법인 아룸지기가 주최, 운영하는 ‘헤리티지 투모로우 프로젝트 2’ <한옥과 한옥 사이, 정주를 위한 집과 길>과 관련하여 전문가그룹의 좌담을 실었습니다. 좌담회의 주제는 ‘정주, 서촌 그리고 도시한옥’으로 이상해(성균관대 건축학과 교수), 김승회(서울대 건축학과 교수), 김광현(서울대 건축학과 교수), 송인호(서울시립대 건축학과 교수), 최춘웅(고려대 건축학과 교수) 5인이 참석하였습니다.
좌담회에서 나눈 중심 주제어는 ‘이 시대의 정주 형식 혹은 도시 정주’, ‘정주의 개념’, ‘정주의 회복’, ‘서촌’, ‘한옥’ 등이었습니다.
WIDE ISSUE 3. “한국 여성 건축계의 터닝 포인트, 2010 UIFA Seoul” 제하에 10월 4일~8일 서울의 국립중앙박물관에서 개최된 세계여성건축가 서울대회의 집행부 수장 오경은(한국여성건축가협회 회장, 피아건축 소장)과 사업운영위원회 이사로 활약한 박순천(나우동인 전무이사)와의 인터뷰를 담았습니다.

Ki-Ok Lee and Anguk Building Renovation
Ki-Ok Lee’s architecture has three key words such as urban environment, tradition and information. He majored in urban planning at graduate school, therefore architecture for him is not an individual existence but an organism having relations with surrounding environments and communicating with them. Especially, he gets the motive from the space concept of Korean traditional architecture and strongly builds those works using 3D process. Information is an essential condition for him because of the fact that he tries to gradually develop his own architecture by means of confirming a formulated hypothesis. He and his colleagues made the specialized internet site‘archidata (www.archidata.co.kr)’ for architecture information in order to help small-office designers by providing PMS(Project Management System) and various design information. page 027

Arumjigi Heritage Tomorrow Project 2
The Arumjigi Foundation preserving our beautiful cultural heritages announced the 2nd contest, and the theme was “Between Hanok and Hanok, House and Road for Settlement” for the purpose of a life recovery to reside. As an experiment to accomplish the purpose, a region at Seochon was selected, and creative ideas of applicants are to be competed. They held a discussion meeting as the first incidental event of the contest on November 3. We, <WideAR>, made an arrangement with Arumjigi about a record and public relations of the contest. page 070

Making Happy School With Culture(MHSWC)
In its 3rd year, MHSWC sponsored by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is the renovation project of antiquated school buildings. Till now there has been criticism that the work of planing and designing school has been done mainly with physical buildings, so the participating architects should find the system that a wide diversity of personalities in relation to the education environment can take part in the project. While school buildings have been constructed very swiftly, cheaply and badly, the standardized image of mass-produced school resulted from customary ordering system and conventional aesthetic has set in. Now we have to become free from restriction under the cloak of equality. page 051

Ganyang Workshop of Architectural Journalism(GW-AJ) 2010, From the Beginning to the End
We, <WideAR>, in last February, recruited college students who want to become architecture magazine reporter or journalist and had held the first term workshop for 9 months. The goals of the workshop can be classified roughly into two. The first goal is to help them understand what the reporter or journalist is, and the second one is to give them an opportunity of introspection through the courtesy education of reporter. After we rated students’ performance as a reporter such as the minimum 70% completion of curriculum and contribution to a magazine, we produced the first batch of 4 students with certificate. page 085
