WIDE WORK. 이번 호에는 이성관(한울건축 대표 건축가)의 “탄허대종사기념박물관”을 주목했습니다. 한국의 고승이자 불교학자인 탄허스님(1913~1983)의 뜻을 기리는 기념관인 동시에 스승의 유지를 실천하는 강학공간입니다. 개발제한구역에 따른 12m의 높이 제한과 450평이라는 면적 제한 속에 전시시설, 강당, 법당, 승방의 기능을 수직적인 배치와 가변성 등으로 해결하고 있는 것이 특징입니다. 특히 한국 사찰 공간 구성의 입체적 차용과 전통요소의 현대적 해석 등은 이 집이 지닌 흥미로운 디자인 이슈들입니다. 정귀원(본지 편집장)의 대담과 진효숙(본지 전속사진가)의 사진 그리고 서정일(서울대학교 인문학연구원 HK 연구교수)의 비평문 ‘금강도량의 꿈: 탄허대종사기념박물관’을 담았습니다.
WIDE ISSUE 1. “EXIT, 한국건축의 길을 찾다(시즌 2): 6 Conversing Events” 제하에 2009 원도시아카데미세미나에서 추출된 언어 <conversing(연-구영민의 발제)>으로부터 건축을 생성하는 관계의 네트워크에 집중하여, 도시 공간의 대립적 팩트들을 관통하며 장소의 활력을 불러 일으키는 매개적 단위 건축을 제안하는 6인 건축가(집단)의 해법들을 주목한, 전시와 집담회의 첫 번째 기록입니다.

WIDE ISSUE 2. “성균건축도시설계원(SKAi) 개설 3년의 성과 해부” 제하에 조성룡(원장), 정기용, 김영섭 3인 교수 건축가와 방담 형식의 인터뷰를 정리한 내용입니다. 다음은 방담에서 건진 말말말 입니다.
그동안 우리는 전혀 새로운 실험을 해왔습니다.(김영섭), 설계원 프로젝트는 현재형입니다.(정기용), 세계건축과 도시를 향한 발신기지가 될 것입니다.(정기용), ‘어떻게’하느냐 보다 ‘왜’ 하느냐를 묻지 못하는 건축가의 한계를 극복할 수 있는 계기를 만들어야겠지요.(조성룡)
WIDE ISSUE 3. 2010 베니스 비엔날레 제12회 국제건축전을 특집하였습니다. 가즈요 세지마가 총감독을 수행한 금회 비엔날레의 전체 주제는 ‘People meet in architecture’입니다. 한국관의 커미셔너는 권문성(성균관대 건축과 교수)이 선정되어 다섯 명의 작가-이상구(경기대 교수), 조정구(구가도시건축 대표), 이충기(서울시립대 교수), 신승수(디자인그룹 오즈 대표), 하태석(아이이크 공동대표)-가 함께 출정하였습니다. 배문규(한국관 코디네이터)의 글 ‘베니스에서 건축을 만나다’와 이충기의 한국관 참관기가 실렸습니다.
WIDE ISSUE 4. “건축, 활자로 재구축되다” 제하에 강권정예(본지 객원기자)는 건축도서를 통해 본 건축의 이슈를 정리하고 있습니다. ‘건축도서는 대중 교양서이다’, ‘대중적 관심의 시작은 건축가’, ‘발굴되는 건축 도서의 저자들’이라는 소제목과 함께 상반기 서점가 베스트셀러로 집계된 건축도서의 배경을 정리하였습니다. 또한 건축도서의 출판으로 건축전문도서 시장의 외연을 넓히고 있는 메이저급 출판사(미메시스, 효형출판, 안그라픽스)의 발행인, 편집자, 디자이너와의 인터뷰를 싣고 있습니다.

Tanheo Grand Master Buddhist Memorial Museum
Tanheo Grand Master Buddhist Memorial Museum designed by architect Sung Kwan Lee is the memorial hall of Tanheo(1913~83) who was a Buddhist priest and scholar of Korea and is also a lecture space where people practice his teachings. The hall was limited to 12-meters in height and 450-pyeong in plottage because of the development restricted zone. Under these limitations, it is characteristic that the functions such as exhibition, lecture, sanctuary and asceticism space were solved through vertical arrangement and mobility. The point that the architect reinterpreted the space and shape of Korean Buddhist temple as metaphor and symbol and that he realized the space within space by suggesting floating Buddhist sanctuary within lecture room is specially interesting design issue. Also, modern style exterior front with silk-screen printed Keumkangkyung on the glass pannel is enough to attract everyone’s attention. page 027

The First-Half Year Report of 2010 Wondoshi Academy Seminar
The contents of the first-half 2010 Wondoshi Academy Seminar that had been progressed from May to July is to be reported in the paper. The seminar named ‘EIXT, Seeking the Way of Korean Architecture-Season 2’ tried to focus upon the network creating architecture through ‘6 CONVERSING EVENTS＇, and it was composed of an exhibition by architects(or groups) and a symposium with 4 pannel members. Let’s pay attention to the architecture solutions by architecture group of SAAI, Jung Goo Cho who was an invitational architect to Venice Biennial and Jeong Im Kim who is a founding partner of Iarc Architects. page 055

SKAi, Professor Architects Open Their Lips
SKAi belonging to the graduate school of Sungkyungkwan University produced the first graduates in August. It was established with specialized programs in architecture-urban design course and architecture governance course in March 2008. With a goal of developing architecture and urban public sector, they have aimed at high-perfection architecture education to an international level by means of blending scholarship and technique and applying it to business practice on the basis of the network among school systems, public space problem research of the nation and the local government and the technical network between architecture-urban related design and engineering field. Social interests and issues about architecture will be examined through architecture books. With the exception of magazines, practical books and texts, the best-sellers in the first-half year among popular architecture books of human, social and art area were selected, and their publication trends were reviewed. What are reader’s emotion and a stream of architecture that were captured by the experts of planning and editing architecture publication? And, we focused on how planning process and background of the best-sellers could expand the scope of architecture. page 080
